Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week by Amy-Jill Levine: Jesus’ final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation, danger, and the potential for great loss or great reward. In Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.
Listen: Praying in a Noisy World by Rueben P. Job: Everywhere we go, we hear sounds that compete for our minds and hearts. Listening to God requires a deliberate choice to shut out the chaos around us and focus our thoughts. Listen, by Rueben P. Job, is a 40-day experience created to offer help to those new to prayer, those with a daily prayer routine, and those whose lives seem too busy to pray. With a focus on listening prayer and prayer as a two-way conversation, the experience will assist individuals and groups in building and deepening a personal prayer practice and spiritual discernment.
Thursday, 6:30-7:30 pm
The 7 Experiment by Jen Hatmaker: The author once considered herself unmotivated by the lure of prosperity, but upon being called “rich” by a child who was living in poverty, evidence to the contrary mounted, and a social experiment turned spiritual journey was born. This study will lead you through this same experiment, at whatever level you choose, in seven key areas: food, clothes, spending, media, possessions, waste, and stress.
