Myers Park United Methodist Church enjoys fruitful school partnerships with our neighbors at CMS and beyond. We welcome you to explore the opportunities below and consider sharing your time, talents, prayers and love with all God’s children through our school partnership ministries.
Develop fast and lasting relationships with our elementary students in 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade by serving with our literacy ministries in age appropriate reading programs. Commit to reading one-on-one with a 2nd or 3rd grade partner once a week as a For the Love of Reading friend to help sharpen skills and instill a love for reading. By 4th grade, our scholars gather in groups to read and discuss a chapter book. Lay Servants provide the structure, questions and leadership for one small group. Reach Beth Gage at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bless our teachers and all school staff at Sedgefield Elementary and Middle School as we express appreciation to them with welcome back lunches, staff meeting breakfasts, gift cards, thank you notes, classroom support and other events throughout the year. Contact Kitty Bauknight email@example.com.
Assist with a Middle School club every other Friday or one Friday a month during the school year. Sedgefield Middle students meet on alternate Fridays to cook, dance, code, read, exercise, play, experiment and explore a variety of other interests. SMS staff leads club meetings and welcomes an additional adult or two to help oversee these activities. To learn more email Megan Jones firstname.lastname@example.org.
EDUCATION ON-CALL TEAM
If your interests and time vary, be the first to learn when we need an extra set of hands to assist in a myriad of ways at both SES and SMS. Email Megan Jones email@example.com to join others on our on-call list.
Join our summer ministry, Freedom School, from June 16-July 27 at Sedgefield Middle School. We welcome eighty scholars, kindergarten to eighth grade, and their intern leaders for reading, enrichment, character building and fun. Be part of promoting the long-term success of our children and help prevent summer learning loss while igniting a passion for reading and a love of learning. There are a variety of opportunities to serve, whether you are here all summer, for one week or even a day or two. Explore ways you can make a difference in the life of our Freedom School scholars. Those 15 and under may serve with a parent, those 16-18 may serve our youngest scholars (Level 1s), and 19 and above may serve all ages.Read More
