At Myers Park
When Jesus walked up to people, he didn’t give them a hug or cheer them on in their pursuits. He asked them to do something, for him, and for his people. The most important question each of us must answer is: What is God calling me to do – for God, and for God’s people? When we provide opportunities for you to do something in the Church, or in mission beyond the Church, we admittedly are trying to get some things done. But more significantly, we are trying to help you answer the question of what God is asking of you.
We are so grateful for what you’ve done for our Church (and even for things you’ve dreamed of doing but haven’t gotten to just yet!) – and more than that, know that God is pleased. What we are asking you to contemplate, and to pray about (and then to answer enthusiastically) isn’t to fill a slot, or to be “willing” to do something, but to be attentive to what God needs from you.
And not just from you but from all of us, together! We who work here aren’t paid to work on your behalf, but to enable and organize all of us to work together for God. It is a privilege for us to answer the call, and serve God together in this place.
-Dr. James C. Howell, Senior Pastor
