Health Ministries Team

This team coordinates the programs and offerings related to health and wellness here at MPUMC.  They meet 6 times a year.  If you’d like to find out more about the Health Ministries Team, please contact Susan Mobley, Parish Nurse at 704-295-4836 or smobley@mpumc.org.

Care Teams

A team of 6 or more volunteers responding to the needs of a congregation member and/or family experiencing health issues or crisis.  See hand out on Care Team Ministry or contact Ann Edwards at aedwards52@carolina.rr.com or Ashley Hunt at ashleyhunt2004@gmail.com.

New Parent Visitation

Visits are made to new parents to offer support and deliver a casserole.  For more information about serving in this ministry contact Lisa Zopp, coordinator at zoppnc@aol.com.

Health Room Outreach

Health Ministries Equipment Closet:  Wheelchairs, walkers and other medical equipment are available to loan to those having a need for the equipment.  Contact Susan Mobley, Parish Nurse at 704-295-4836 or smobley@mpumc.org.

Bloodmobile

Bloodmobile is held in the Youth Building Gym at 7:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at MPUMC twice a year.  Consider donating blood – the Gift of Life.  Volunteer for the Blood Drive Signups – Contact Robert Lutz at Robert_lutz@att.net.

Flu Shots

Flu Shots are held in the fall  in Combo Rooms 106/7/8 of the Parish Life Building.

CPR AED Training

CPR AED Class:  Fall and spring classes are offered.  Check bulletin and newsletter for dates.  To take the class contact Carmen Rivera at crivera@mpumc.org or call 704-295-4818. Cost is $30.00. We have 3 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) on campus – hallway behind Sanctuary, Parish Life Lobby and Youth Building Gym.  Consider taking this class.  It can save a life!

Medicare Part D

Counseling is offered yearly by 4 church members who are S.H.I.I.P. trained during Medicare Open Enrollment period from October 15 to December 7. This one-on-one counseling is available for those becoming eligible for Medicare or those wishing to change their Medicare D Plan. Medicare Open Enrollment for 2018 will be from October 15 to December 7, 2018.  Contact: Carmen Rivera at crivera@mpumc.org or call 704-295-4818.

Sedgefield Elementary Health Room

Twice during the school year we provide additional supplies needed by the school nurse at Sedgefield to care for the health needs of the children at that school.  If interested contact Jean Cannon at jwcannon444@gmail.com or Barbara Crum at bcrumm@bellsouth.net.

Exercise Classes              

Functional Fitness Class for those over age 60:

Functional Fitness for Active Aging: Enjoy a 60-minute workout tailored specifically to the needs of older adults! This group exercise class is designed and led by a licensed, physical therapist and will show you how to exercise safely and to gain maximum benefit. It is suited for everyone regardless of your current fitness level. The focus is on:

• Strengthen lower body & core muscles (protect your back!)
• Decreasing joint pain & stiffness
• Increasing back flexibility & mobility
• Improving posture (undo bad habits!)
• Balance training
• Understanding the brain-body connection

Cost: $5 per class; first class is FREE!
Class Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays
Class Times: 10:30-11:30

Cardio Sculpting Class:

Cardio Sculpting – Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. in the Fitness Room of the Youth Building. Instructor Sara Novajosky leads this group in a cardio workout to get your morning off to a good start! Cost $50.00 for 8 classes.
